Although dental caries is the most prevalent chronic disease worldwide, it is also the most preventable. The priority prevention strategy is health education, and pregnancy, a teachable moment, is the ideal life stage to start it. Education and preventive dental care should start during pregnancy and continue throughout a child's life.
